Thank you Chaffee County!

Don’t forget to put April 28thand 29th on your calendar for the 2018 Chaffee Home & Garden Show!

It was another wonderful Chaffee Home & Garden Snow (oops … Show)!!!

For the third year in a row, snow was part of the Chaffee Home & Garden Show, and this year it brought over 2500 visitors inside to experience the offerings and knowledge of over 70 vendors and speakers.  For that the Salida Sunrise Rotary Club gives you all a huge thank you!  Everyone we spoke to (whether a vendor or a visitor) agreed that it was the best Chaffee Home & Garden Show yet.

Much of the thanks for the Show’s success go to the vendors and to the sponsors. Thank you, Brady’s West for your part of the show for the 5th consecutive year and by being a Platinum Sponsor. Thank you, too, to American Overhead Door for also being a Platinum Sponsor and a first time participant in the show.  Thank you to the Gold Sponsors: Collegiate Peaks Bank, Rocky Mountain Lumber & Hardware and KW Construction for their continued support year after year, and to our Silver Sponsor: Heart of the Rockies Radio.  They consistently kept advance announcements on air before the weekend as well as provided non-stop coverage throughout the two days of the show.  Thank you also goes to our Friends of the Show: Peak Solar Design, Salida Stove & Spa, Bear Country Cabinets, Champion Windows, The Mountain Mail, Altamont Landscapes, Hi Valley Supply Hydrophonics System, Valley to Valley Care Center and Solarado Energy who gave additional support. A huge thank you also goes to all of the vendors who return every year and show their continued support.  New, were 23 vendors who had heard so much about our show that they couldn’t pass it up – some coming from as far away as California and Arizona. Also new this year was an “antique roadshow” appraiser’s room, and a mobile veterinarian to place microchips in cats and dogs.

Thank you to chefs Jeff Schweitzer (50 Burger), Don Potts (Shallots) and Shelley Long (Seasons Café) for taking time from your hectic schedule to demonstrate some of their favorite fresh recipes. And thank you Kayla Malone (Chaffee County Noxious Weed Department), Udgar Parsons (Growing Spaces) and Kurt Jones (Colorado State University County Extension) who shared wonderful gardening tips and ideas to packed rooms of participants. Thank you to our antique appraisers, Mark Krivanek and the Dave and Sherry Passarelli who shared their expertise with several who brought in their unique items on Sunday. And a big thank you to Dr. Richard Gastellum of At Home Pet Doctor and the Ark Valley Humane Society for spending a full two days microchipping pets!

We also can’t forget the fabulous food trucks: Chef Charles (savory barbecue), The Crossroads Café (delicious burgers), and Tatty’s Corner (amazing Venezuelan cuisine) who spent the entire 2 days feeding show visitors and vendors. Thank you for spending two wonderful days with us!

Thank you too to Terry and Diana Howerter who were our judges on Saturday morning for their time and commitment to choosing the “Best Of …” Awards which incidentally went to: Brady’s West (Best of Show), Valley to Valley Senior Care Center (Best Service or Product), Legend’s Kitchen & Bath Showroom (Best New Vendor) and Yoder’s Mountain View Furniture (Best “Green” Vendor).

The show could not have happened without the support and energy of Steve Wyatt of the Chaffee County Fairgrounds, the tireless work of the Chaffee Home & Garden Show committee: David Moore and Gary Buchanan (Vendors & Sponsors), Karen Opp (Facilities), Theresa Koransky (Show Layout), Brice Turnbull (Speakers), Lee Sohl (Public Relations), Cate Hazlitt (Volunteers and Door Prizes), Molly Bischoff (Vendor Buffet), Carol Preiss (Antique Corner) and Janet Blessington (website and Facebook developer).  Also thank you to the entire Salida Sunrise Rotary Club and the Salida Middle School and High School Interact Clubs – all who volunteered and worked throughout the two day event.  I am grateful to each and every one of you.

Proceeds from this show go to college bound seniors and current students enrolled in college and into the Salida Sunrise Rotary Club non-profit grant program.  So, thank you Chaffee County for another wonderful year!  Don’t forget to put April 28th and 29th on your calendar for the 2018 Chaffee Home & Garden Show!  See you next year!
